In Memoriam - Cleo -- 2000-04-16 - 2012-03-13

Our cat Cleo passed away last night from apparently a sudden heart attack.
She was on the mend from a bladder/upper respiratory infection and while she
wasn't eating on her own she was responding well to tube feeding and daily
subcutaneous fluids.  She had put on almost a pound over 2.5 weeks and
wasn't throwing up anything she was fed.

She could be a right bitch at times, always had what we jokingly called
"Cattitude" for all around her.

I took some pictures back on 2/28 figuring we'd be putting her down within a
week.  She didn't give up and neither did we - although my wife is
inconsolably convinced the force feedings and IV fluids are what drove her
to the heart attack.

Cleo was just chilling on her window perch when I got home early Tuesday afternoon,
she literally got up and headed to the litter box when I heard a thud and a
growl that wasn't right.  She had collapsed and wasn't breathing; just like
that she was gone :(

I guess she left on her terms, we'll be getting her ashes back next week and
she'll be sprinkled through the back yard which was her favorite place to

"Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day" -- Ian Anderson -- Jethro Tull

Meanwhile back in the year One --- when you belonged to no-one ---
you didn't stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
`Cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society ---
one day you'll wake up in the Present Day ---
a million generations removed from expectations
of being who you really want to be.

Skating away ---
skating away ---
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

So as you push off from the shore,
won't you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
will live just one more day ---
to do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
you feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign
that the Universal Mind (!) has written you into the Passion Play.

Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind ---
you're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye ---
shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story's
too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like
you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
