May 27 - Seattle before departure. Sunny and 80 degrees out, the locals were in *awe* of the good weather.
May 28 - Boarding Day. We waited about three hours to get through the boarding lines. The cabin was small, but functional - note the low ceilings on the doorway!
May 29 - at sea. We took in a fabulous show at the on-board theater.
May 30 - A medical emergency forced the ship back three hours to rendezvous with a tender ship. We lost another four hours on the way back to Juneau. We docked in time to take a whirlwind tour of Mendenhall Glacier. Too bad all the park shops were closed, but since we arrived late....
May 31 - Skagway. We toured a sled-dog camp and training ground. Great animals who *love* to run! Then we took a bike trip down from British Columbia back into Alaska. The U.S. border patrol guards were just surly about having to check our ID's.
June 1 - Inner Passage. Glacial runoff is the fresh water source here. Neat blue ice. June 2 - Ketchican - Lighthouse tour showed off lots of eagles. Karen wanted to have the bear shipped back.
June 3 - formal dinner night. I toured the galley to see how and where you prepare food for 2800 people.
June 4 - Victoria, BC. High winds prevent us from docking until after nightfall. The ship was docked for less than an hour so we figured why leave? Here is the only picture of Victoria, the customs house as viewed from the ship. |
