| Road Trip 2004 - links to images and words on the road to see Rush: Saturday June 26, 2004Nebraska to Colorado - out of the plains and up the mountains.
We managed to bring the weather with us, at least it was just a drizzle and not a driving hard rain.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Saturday June 26, 2004 Lincoln, NE to Estes Park, CO. We straggle down to the continental breakfast around 9am. Mike, Kathy and Matt are already packed and checked out, ready to go. Great. We are traveling with "morning people". I don't mind it so much, but Karen is set on edge by having to keep to any schedule while on vacation. This may not bode well as there are several days of driving where we cannot afford to sightsee. We get on the road and the rain begins. Seems like we are the Chicago Rainmakers, bringing welcomed moisture with us on the road. At least everywhere we stop and it's raining the folks all say "Well, we needed it". But on our vacation?? We arrive in Cheyenne about 3:30 CST, and stop at the Frank Norris Jr. Travel Center. There is an interesting set of statues of a Mountain Man meeting an Indian. The center is filled with things to do in Wyoming. We load up on brochures, and then promptly head south on I-25 heading for Ft. Collins and ultimately Estes Park Colorado. We finally roll up to the Appenzell Inn around 7:30 CST, tucked away on Route 36 in the Rocky Mountains. It was harder to find than I expected, just a small frontage with only an entrance gate and a bell tower (a BELL TOWER??) to guide us. The rooms were great; it is a 2 bedroom "condo" with a living room, kitchenette and a huge Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Only thing – 2 bedrooms ought to equate to 2 bathrooms at this price range, but we made do.
